VMI Relays

The Generals sent a partial team to cross town VMI for the annual Winter Relays.  The meet featured Division 3 and 1 schools.  Among D3 schools, W&L earned eight first place finishes.

 

Men's Recap:
Sophomore Will Holliday was the first collegiate finisher in the 400m (53.46).  The 4x400 relay of sophomores Matt Harrison, Wilson Robinson, Marshall French and freshmen Chip McCoey were the 1st D3 team running 3:40.74.  Freshmen Drew Martin won the Pole Vault clearing 13'9.75"  Junior Ryan Edge tied for second D3 in the High Jump clearing 6'2.75"  Sophomore Larry Clark finished 3rd (D3) in the 55 hurdles runnin 9.19 and freshmen Brad Bender ran 6.88 to place 4th (D3) in the 55m.  Freshmen Ben Wilson also place 3rd (D3) in the Shot Put with a toss of 38'3"

Women's Recap:
The women were led by sophomore Liz Brandler who won the Pole Vault with a jump of 10'6" and then came back to place 2nd in the Triple Jump (32'1").  Freshmen Alisha Laventure tied for 1st in the High Jump with a leap of 5'1".  Junior Huntley Rodes also tied for first in the Long Jump (15'2") and also ran a leg on the winning 4x400m relay with freshmen Caroline Davis, junior Sara Behmerwohld and sophomore Diania Dozier.  Davis also place 4th in the 55 hurdles running 9.34 and Behmerwohld placed 4th in the 400m running 65.69.

 

Also racing this weekend at Liberty Univeristy was Freshmen Vance Berry.  Berry placed 2nd among D3 runners in the 800m crossing the line in 1:59.80.  Both Mary Christopher and Becca Taylor ran the 5,000m finishing 2nd and 3rd (D3) running 19:29 and 19:42.  Jackie Burns also ran the mile in 5:37
