W&L CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS PICKED TO WIN ODAC TITLES

W&L Men and Women Both Enter the 2007 Season as Favorites

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference released its
2007 preseason coaches poll on Monday afternoon and the Washington and
Lee men's and women's teams were both chosen as the favorites to win the
crown.

The W&L men, who have won three-straight titles, received eight
first-place votes and 98 points to take first in the poll. Bridgewater
had two first-place votes and 91 points and was followed by Lynchburg
(78), Roanoke (64), Virginia Wesleyan (60), Guilford (46),
Hampden-Sydney (43), Eastern Mennonite (34), Emory & Henry (21) and
Randolph (15).
The Generals return 15 letterwinners, including each of their top seven
runners, from last season. Headlining the list are juniors Vance Berry
(Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Episcopal) and Michael Welsh (Tullahoma,
Tenn./Tullahoma) and senior Tom Brower (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian
Brothers Academy), all of whom earned First Team All-ODAC and All-Region
honors last season.

The Generals' women, who have also won three consecutive ODAC crowns,
received all nine first-place votes and 81 points. They were followed by
Roanoke (70), Lynchburg (58), Bridgewater (51), Eastern Mennonite (45),
Virginia Wesleyan (41), Guilford (28), Emory & Henry (18) and Randolph
(13).
W&L returns eight letterwinners, including sophomore Kat Telfeyan
(Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge), who finished second at the ODAC
Championship and ninth at the NCAA Regional en route to qualifying for
the NCAA National Championships.
Washington and Lee opens in 2007 cross country campaign by hosting the
Generals Invitational on Sept. 8 at 10:00 am.
