2008 ODAC Track & Field Championships
Women Place 2nd, Men 3rd At ODAC Championships. 4 ODAC Champions, 12-All ODAC Performances, 4 School Records, 3 Championship Meet Records and 1 NCAA Qualifying Performance Highlighted The Weekend.
The women set a record high point total to place 2nd. Junior Stacy Doornbos led a true well rounded team performance. She placed 1st in the High Jump (5-3), 2nd in the Long Jump (17-11), 2nd in the 100 hurdles (15.75), 3rd in the 400m (59.30) and 6th in the Triple Jump (10.45m). Classmate Elizabeth Webb was a double winner placing 1st in the 1500m (4:44.90) and the 800m (2:18.15). In the 1500m Webb took the lead at the start and ran away from the field. It was a big team point event for the Generals as W&L placed 1st-3rd-4th-5th & 6th. Junior Becca Taylor was 3rd in the 1500m (4:53.49), she also placed 2nd in the 3000m Steeplechase (11:59.0) breaking her own school record. Junior Jessica Shaw won the 5,000m (17:29.84) lapping the field and setting a new school record, championship meet record and hitting an NCAA provisional mark. Sophomore Dorothy Todd placed 5th in both the 1500m (4:58.18) and 800m (2:25.11). Classmate Kat Telfeyan placed 4th in the 3000m Steeplechase (12:20.8) and 6th in the 1500m (4:59.70).
Additionally, sophomore Maggie Sutherland had a break out meet as she placed 2nd in the High Jump (1.57m), 3rd in the 100 hurdles (15.95) and 4th in the Triple Jump (10.53m). Junior Alysen Kuck placed 3rd in the Javelin (33.92m) and classmate Grace Andrews placed 3rd in the Shot Put (29.31m), 5th in the Discus (29.31m), and 5th in the Hammer (33.02m) breaking her own school record. Junior Stephanie Stelter placed 3rd in the 400 hurdles running a PR race in 67.17 and sophomore Sallie Armstrong placed 5th in the 100 hurdles (16.55) and 4th in the 400 hurdles (68.36).
Other place winners were Jule Miata, 4th in the 800m running 2:23.69 and freshmen Katherine Fenwick, 6th in the 800m (2:27.65). The 4x100 relay team of freshmen Summer Lollie, Stelter, junior Tara Hildenbrand and Doornbos set a new school record while placing 3rd running 49.55.
Other hardware won by the Generals included Stacy Doornbos bening named ODAC Women's Track & Field Athlete of The Year and Elizabeth Webb was named ODAC Scholar Athlete of The Year.
For the men sophomore Billy Billington placed in three throwing events. He was 2nd in the Shot Put (13.87m), 2nd in the Discus (41.33m) and 3rd in the Hammer (47.68m) breaking his own school record. Junior Vance Berry ran a gutsy 5,000m placing 2nd with a time of 15:33.54. Senior Michael Keenan set a new school record in the Javelin placing 2nd with a toss of 51.87m. Junior Alex Jackson placed 3rd in the 3000m Steeplechase running 10:22.8. Sophomore Ryan Castle placed 4th in the High Jump (1.83m) and 6th in the Long Jump (6.05m). Sophomore Brian Bondurant placed 5th in the Triple Jump with a mark of 12.56m. Junior Michael Welsh (16:00.40) and senior Tom Brower (16:03.30) placed 5th and 6th in the 5,000m. Freshmen Jeff Giordano placed 6th in both the 100m (11.27) and 200m (22.96). Additionally the 4x100m team of Marshall French, Sean Hurdiss, Brian Bondurant and Jeff Giordano ran a season best time of 43.59 to place 3rd.
