VCU RAM & Roanoke Maroon Invitationals
The Generals competed at both the VCU and Roanoke Invitationals this weekend. In the process they set three new school records and had nine top three finishes.
VCU Recap:
Steve Chambers lead the way with a 1st place (D3) finish in the 5,000m running 15:42.22. Chris Walker placed 3rd (D3) in the hammer throw with a toss of 29.88m
For the women, Blair Haws led the way to a 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 6th place sweep of the 1,500m among D3 athletes. Blair ran 5:02.79, Lindsay Erickson opened up her season running a 5:04.56, Mary Christopher crossed the line in 5:12.38 and Jenny Ratzel finished in 5:17.13.
Maroon Invite Recap:
For the men, Ryan Edge placed 4th in the High Jump with a leap of 5-8. Alex Mahoney placed 5th in the 1500m with a time of 4:19.46, while Tom Brower opened up his season in 6th running 4:22.25.
Liz Brandler picked up right she left off indoors, winning the triple jump (34-4.75) setting a new outdoor school record. She also finished 2nd in the pole vault with a jump of 11-3. This set a new outdoor school record, and qualified for NCAA championships. Sara Behmerwohld won the 400 hurdles breaking her own school record running 68.27 and also placed 3rd in the 100 hurdles (16.80). Huntley Rodes finished 3rd in the triple jump with a leap of 32-5.5 and also finished 3rd in the 400 hurdles (72.78).
