VMI Invite-Season Opener - Washington and Lee University Cross Country and Track & Field

The men's and women's Track & Field teams kicked off their indoor season at the VMI Invitational on Saturday December 3rd. The early season meet had both division one and division three schools attending. The meet was highlighted by 3 school records, 3 first place finishes and 12 top three performances!!

Women's Recap:

The freshmen quartet of Stacy Doorbos, Caroline Davis, Stephanie Stelter and Tara Hildenbrand started off their college careers with a bang...winning the 4x400m relay in a school record time of 4:19.64.
Doornbos had a record breaking day as she also won the Long Jump in 17'4.25" (new school record) and the 200m in 27.52. She set her third school record of the day in the 55m with a 3rd place finish overall and a time of 7.61.
Caroline Davis also placed in the 200m (3rd overall) in 29.07 and 4th overall in the 55 hurdles in 9.99. Stephanie Stelter placed 3rd in the 55 hurdles with a time of 9.90 and 5th in the 200m in 29.99. Tara Hildenbrand placed 4th overall in the 200m with a time of 29.89 as well as placing 7th overall in the 55m (8.17). Alysen Kuck rounded out a great day by the freshmen class with a 3rd place High Jump in 4'9"

Men's Recap:

Jumpers led the way for the Generals to start off the season. Drew Martin was the 1st place D3 finished in the pole vault (12-9.5) and finished 3rd among D3 runners in the 55m with a time of 7.02. Brad Bender place 3rd overall and 2nd D3 in the Long Jump (19'9") and came back with a 2nd place D3 finish in the 55m (6.90). Peter Martinez was the first D3 finisher and 2nd overall in the High Jump with a leap of 6'2"
Marshall French ran a strong 500m to place 3rd among D3 in 1:10.30. He then teamed up with Will Holliday, Wilson Robinson and Seasn Hurdiss to place 3rd Overall (2nd D3) in the 4x400m.
